Teaching Practice

We are involved in teaching medical students and GP trainees. Thank you for your cooperation in this important task of training our future doctors.

Medical Students

Medical students from Newcastle University attend at various stages in their training from the 1st to 5th and final year. They may be sitting in observing one of our nurses or doctors whilst you see them. You may be asked if you would be able to speak to the students or let them examine you under supervision. For final year students they may carry out the consultation under supervision of an experienced GP.

Medical students are supervised by Dr Kirk and Dr Mulgrew.

Sometimes we may ask you to help out with an exam. If you would prefer not to have a student present during a consultation please inform reception.

Foundation Doctors

Foundation doctors are qualified doctors post-degree who are completing a 4 month rotation with us as part of their 2nd year of training. They may then decide to be GPs or continue to work in hospital medicine. They are able to practice independently and are supervised by Dr Ninan.

GP Trainees

GP trainees are doctors at least 2 years post-qualification and have committed to a 3 year GP training programme. Part of this is spent in hospital and at least 1 year in General Practice. They are able to practice independently and are supervised by Dr Kirk.

If you have any questions about training within our practices please speak to reception who will direct queries to the appropriate person in our team.

Thank you for your help!
